NYC, Discovering the real big Apple and not Apple

A visit to New York is a retail challenge. The proliferation of brands is like being in a candy store, spoilt for choice.
Names that are global players dominate districts, so the fun is finding the ‘real’  experience, that is less corporate and more natural. We discovered a few which were starting to move in this direction. Our favourite was from the food sector, a concept called SweetGreens. Natural, salad based, fresh ingredients delivered in a friendly, efficient way. Quick seasonal meals that did not make you think of fast food. The environment added to the experience and the communication plays with a social lifestyle.

Staying on the natural feel the other gem which has nothing to do with retail but knows how to react with the visitor and form a community is the established HighLine. Formerly an elevated rail track, it is now a ‘green’  walk that runs from 34th street through Chelsea, past Fulton Houses and onto 14TH street. This park meanders through the building scape, with twists and turns, changes of materials and planting. Regeneration at its best.
